The sixth biennial ReDi Conference
 
DIACONIA IN DIALOGUE - THE CHALLENGES OF DIVERSIFYING CONTEXT

Helsinki, Finland 14/15 –17 September 2016


ReDi, in collaboration with Diak, is organizing the sixth biennial conference on the research and study of diaconia and Christian social practice.
The aim is to highlight urgent current challenges to diaconia and Christian social practice.

The central themes of the Conference will be:
  • Community, conviviality and citizenship
  • Diaconia in a multi faith/diversifying context
  • New diaconal professionalism – values and practice
  • Diaconia, refugees and migration

The keynote speakers will be:

COMMUNITY, CONVIVIALITY & CITIZENSHIP
  • Dr. Tuomas Martikainen is docent and researcher at the University of Helsinki.
  • Dr. Claus Leggewie is professor for political science and director for the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities at the University Alliance Ruhr in Essen.

NEW DIACONAL PROFESSIONALISM: THEOLOGY, VALUES & PRACTICE

  • Dr. Beate Hofmann is professor for diaconal studies and diaconal management at the Applied University of Diaconia and Church Wuppertal/Bethel.
  • Dr. Hans-Joachim Sander is professor of dogmatic theology at the University of Salzburg.

 DIACONIA IN A MULTI-FAITH & DIVERSIFYING CONTEXT

  • Dr. Clare Amos is Programme Coordinator for Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation at the World Council of Churches, Geneva.
  • Dr. Mohammed Fazlhassemi is professor of Islamic theology and philosophy at the University of Uppsala.

WORKSHOPS, will be held on the following topics:

SEMINARS for research students, with paper presentations

OPEN SPACE for Exchange – a chance to present new ideas or concerns, more information here.

As part of the ReDi conference, a SEMINAR FOR THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF YOUTH DIACONIA is being organized on 14th September. The Announcement and call for papers can be found here.

ORGANISATION
The conference is being held in Helsinki at the kind invitation of the Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Diak) and other Finnish partners including Helsinki University, Helsinki Deaconess Institute, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland as well as Diakoniatutkimuksen seura (Finnish diaconia research society). The conference also forms part of the 20th anniversary of the founding of Diak and the opening of their new main building. There is a Finnish and an international planning committee.
