11th Biennial Conference for Research in Diaconia and Christian Social Practice (ReDi)
with the theme “Diaconia in Need; Strengthening Diaconia from within”
will be organised by the Faculty of Protestant Theology, Charles University, at Fortna Monastery in Prague, 22-25.9.2927.
In response to the range of challenges of the last decade experienced worldwide the conference will focus on the need to reflect Diaconia’s inner sources and strengthen its readiness to enter public space with its prophetic voice and acts whatever the circumstances may be. Forced migrations, pandemics taking away freedom and lives, disregard to constitutionality, democracy, international law, undermined respect to human rights and human worth, disregard for human intellect by the rise of AI, fragility of safe environment due to armed conflicts, violence, populism as means of reaching particular interests, painful divisions in our societies, organisations and partnerships, as if shared values of truth, trust, social justice, civil, communal and relational dimensions of our lives were lost. While Diaconia academics, students and practitioners offer new strategies how to tackle particular challenges in such contexts, and anticipate further difficulties to come, in this conference they will draw attention to Diaconia’s inner sources for its individual, communal and institutional modes of being.
